A summary of the plot

What is the plot of the film The Prodigy?

Here is a brief summary of the plot of the film “The Prodigy.”

On August 22, 2010, serial killer Edward Scarka (Paul Fauteux) was fatally shot during a police raid on his farmhouse in rural Ohio. Sarah (Taylor Schilling) and John, a married couple, give birth to their son, Miles, in Pennsylvania at the time of Edward’s death. Miles is very wise and smart from a young age, and he starts speaking fluently before he is even two years old.

Sarah and John begin to notice behavioural changes in Miles when he turns eight in 2018. He plays a prank on his babysitter, Zoe (Elisa Moolecherry), one night, seriously injuring her, but claims no recollection of the incident. He attacks a classmate with a wrench at school. Miles is taken to psychiatrist Elaine Strasser, who hands over a tape recording of him speaking apparent gibberish in his sleep. Elaine hands the tape over to a colleague, Arthur Jacobson (Colm Feore), a rebirth and reincarnation expert. Arthur explains that the gibberish Miles spoke was actually a rare dialect of Hungarian, and the words translate to “I’ll cut your eyes out and watch you die, whore.”

Sarah is sceptical of Arthur’s claim that an unsettled spirit desires control of the boy’s body. The family’s dog goes missing at home, and John is furious when he discovers Miles has been recording the couple’s bedroom with a baby monitor. John departs for his brother’s home, leaving Sarah alone with Miles. Sarah later discovers a swarm of flies in the house and the dismembered dog of the family in the basement. Miles apologises and explains that someone is invading his dreams every night and that he must “make room.”
