How to Watch Amazon Prime Video with Buddies Online

Currently, Amazon launched a new feature that allows you to watch Amazon Prime Video content with your buddies by using Twitch. As it isn’t just screen sharing, the process is not relatively seamless.

Before we get begins, there are some things to keep in mind. For example, both the streamer & viewer need an active Prime Video subscription to participate; otherwise, it would just be piracy. The Amazon Prime Video catalog varies between regions, so if you live in the U.S and wish to watch something exclusively available in the UK, this will not work. Again, this only works from a PC at the moment. So without further ado, let’s get to it.

Step 1: Create a Twitch account

Firstly, you need a Twitch account; if you do not already have one, then quickly create. Go to twitch.tv, then create a new account by tapping the sign-up button. Enter the details & enter an email address for verification.

Step 2: Install Twitch studio beta

As you can merely stream from a desktop app, we would need to install the computer app first. Tap this link to download the Twitch Studio Beta on your PC. Alternatively, you can tap on your profile icon on the top right > Creator Dashboard > tap on the download button under the middle option, which says, Get Streaming Software.

Furthermore, you can use other streaming apps like OBS and configure that with the Twitch stream Key also, but to keep things simple here, I have chosen Twitch studio beta. After Downloading Twitch studio beta. Now install it on your PC, like you install any other windows or mac app. I would be using the Mac for this Amazon Prime Video post, but the steps are the same once you are in the app.

Run the app and log-in with your Twitch credentials. It usually picks up the credentials if you have logged in on your web browser, but you can do it manually if it does not.

Now, it’s time to set up the streaming app. Tap the Get Started button to proceed.

It will ask you permission to access the webcam, mic, & System Audio. Grant the permissions by tapping the buttons next to each item.

While granting Camera and mic permissions is easy, you would need one more to stream successfully. Open the Settings app on computer and navigate to Security & Privacy. Tap the Privacy tab, then enable Twitch Studio in the Screen Recording section.

Tap the Pad Lock on the bottom left to save the changes.

Step 3: Go Live

Afterward, go back to the Twitch Studio app on your PC and tap the Start Stream button at the window’s bottom.

It would display you a preview of how things would look. You can check here if the mic and the camera are working. When everything checks out, tap the “Go Live” button.

Step 4: Setup Stream Party

Go back to The Twitch Website on your web browser, then tap the profile icon on the upper right corner of the page. Choose the Creator Dashboard from the drop-down list.

On the Creator Dashboard, choose Stream Manager from the left pane and tap the big + button on the page’s right side.

You would find the “Start Watch Party” Quick Action on the top. Hit the Add button.

Step 5: Start Watch Party

As the Twitch stream runs in the background, we would select the movie or show that you desire to watch with your friends. On the Twitch website, tap Start Watch Party on the right pane.

It’ll ask you to connect your Amazon account with Twitch. Proceed to do that by tapping the Log-in button.

It would open a pop-up window where you’ve to enter your Amazon Prime Video account credentials. After verifying the credentials, enable Twitch to access the content library from your account.

Now, you would be able to search the shows on Amazon Prime Video, right from the Twitch site dashboard. I decided to stream The Boys season 2.

After choosing the episode, tap the “Start Watch Party” button to begin the stream.

Now, ask your buddies to tune in to your Twitch stream to start watching the content. They would need to connect their Amazon account to their Twitch first.

Your Twitch stream URL is

https://twitch.tv/*your_username*

Once open your Twitch stream on a web browser, it would look something like the image below, and they can start watching by tapping the “Start Watching” button.

So, Enjoy.

Final Words

It is the legit way to host an online movie Party on Twitch without getting flagged for DMCA. Although there is one big caveat; you cannot view Watch Parties on a mobile device. However, Amazon has promised that it will be available “in the coming months.”, you will have to make do with this method, for now. So, what do you think of this technique? Let me know down below?
