How to Perform a Reverse Email Search

In case you ever receive an email from an unknown person and need to know who’s behind this email, you can easily do that via a reverse email search.

A reverse email search enables you to know all the info about the sender that he or she ever made public anywhere on the internet. So, to help you with your reverse Email lookup, I will show you different methods or techniques to track who’s behind an Email address.

1. Do a Google Search

A straightforward yet effective method. In case the sender has mentioned their email address on any site or forum, then Google Search should point to it. Just enter the exact email address in Google Search, and you will see some results.

Check both page titles & descriptions to see if you could get a clue. To further narrow down the search, you will add quotes (“”) at the start & the end of the email address, like this; “example@gmail.com. It’ll only show you pages that contain the email address as is.

You can even check our guide to using Google Search effectively to get more ideas to narrow down your search to pinpoint the email address.

2. Search social networks

Social networking websites have a vast user base and offer reliable information about users. If the sender has used their email to sign up to a social networking website, you should learn more about them.

Every social site has a search option to enter the email address to look for any users with that email address. If you wish to do this manually, check out this list of over 60 popular social networking websites & search for the email address.

However, if you want to automate the process, then Lullar is a good option. Enter the email address in the Lullar search box, and it’ll automatically search for it on over 30 popular social networking websites. You can then tap on the websites with names highlighted in blue to see more info.

Moreover, if you manage to find the email address on any social website, then there’s a good chance you can find who they are & where they live. Even though if they have restricted their profile, you should still be capable of getting their real name & maybe a picture as well.

3. Use Email lookup services

There are ample email lookup services out there that will scorch via social networks, web results, and even the deep web to find any clues about the email address provided. In case the email address is publicly visible anywhere, these tools should be capable of finding them.

Well, for this purpose, I recommend using Pipl that is free-to-use and has an extensive database. Simply enter the email address, & Pipl will show you available results in a second.

It’ll show you the site where the email is registered and maybe more info if available. In case you manage to get the exact name of the person behind the Email address, you can even search the name in Pipl to get more information.

While we’re talking about more information, you can also enter the email holder’s name at the Peekyou website to get extensive details about them.

4. Look for clues

In case the email is available publically, then the above ways should be able to find it. However, if you’re still out of luck, you should try to look for clues to get more info.

Additionally, the clues you can find still depend on what you are dealing with, so I cannot give you a one-fit-all solution. However, to provide you with some pointers, you can look at the email address’s domain name to get an idea.

For instance, in “theguy@scamaster.com,” the “scamaster.com” might be the email holder’s domain. You can also search online for the domain to see if you can get more info.

Similarly, the content of the email may also give up some clues. If they are providing you something, then you can search online for such info. Separately searching the email ID & email domain name in Google Search may even help get more information.

Still, cannot find it?

If you still cannot find the person behind the email address, then there’s a good chance that either the email address has not been used anywhere else or sent through an anonymous email website.

In case it was sent through an anonymous email website, you can visit that website to opt-out of their list. And if the matter is severe (and illegal), then you can even ask the website to give up their location or IP address (most can do it). In case nothing works, then blocking them will always set you free.

Final words

The simple query of “Who is it?” is usually a great way to deal with anonymous emails. I’ll not recommend you to become a detective if you can ask the sender instead. The email lookup process is extensive and probably reveal extra information about the person you’re not supposed to know.

Though, note that spying on someone’s online life for no legit reason is unethical, & you should refrain from it.
